Brimming Horn announces Wandering Woden mead in limited release March 9

March 9, 2018

Brimming Horn heads back to its roots in honor of the Allfather Odin. Wandering Woden is a mead made from North Dakota clover honey and then aged in a heavy smoke single-malt whisky barrel for six months.

Woden (Old English for Odin) was known for his solitary wandering amongst the vast cosmos in search of wisdom. He was also the main culprit behind the theft of the mead of poetry, which became the source of the ability to speak and write poetically. With this knowledge, Wandering Woden was born.

Mead-maker Jon Talkington decided to make this exceptional mead using the same North Dakota clover honey that made the eternal rituals such a big hit. After fermentation, the mead was moved and stored in a smoked single-malt whisky barrel and aged for six months, imparting a peat-smoked whisky flavor that any single-malt whisky aficionado will adore.

Talkington said, "I wanted Wandering Woden to capture the the essence of a single-malt whisky and tell a story, and it does just that! The color is a pale gold, the aroma is of heavy peat smoke, and the flavor is wonderful and complex. The subtle honey sweetness, oak, vanilla, and smoke dance on your tongue. This is a mead for a discerning palate, a mead that will remind one of a not-so-distant past, a mead that will inspire you, and a mead that will take you on a journey to wander for wisdom."

Wandering Woden is meant to be enjoyed communally, sitting by a great fire and reading favorite poems in honor of the one-eyed old man. Wandering Woden will be released Friday, March 9, specially packaged in a 500-ml ceramic bottle and sold for $26.99. As usual, Brimming Horn’s specialty meads have a limited bottle number, so don't put off buying one! To order Wandering Woden, go to www.brimminghornmeadery.com or www.vinoshipper.com.
