The public is invited to join Dorothea Benton Frank, author of “By Invitation Only,” at 4 p.m., Wednesday, May 30, for a special book event at Browseabout Books featuring festive hors d'oeuvres and a custom cocktail recipe for the first 50-100 attendees. The event will include a sampling of Vermont Shepherd cheeses, accompanied by Sidehill Farm Quince Butter, and a 50 ml Double Cross Vodka.

An online sweepstakes will give fans a chance to win a "By Invitation Only" picnic basket with full-sized products, and perfect barbecue, picnic and cocktail accessories including a cheese board, cheese knives, plates, skewers ... the works! (alcohol not included).

Sidehill Farm is one of the first specialty food companies in Vermont, with products handmade in Vermont since 1976. Sidehill Farm (www.sidehillfarmjam.com) offers new jam flavors and a line of Vermont Maple toppings. Their product line now includes 30 jams and fruit butters, including old favorites raspberry, blueberry, and strawberry rhubarb, as well as some unexpected treats like cinnamon pear, mango habanero, and hot red pepper. One of their specialty toppings is Maple Apple Drizzle, a delicious combination of Vermont maple syrup and New England apples that tastes like apple pie in a jar and can be enjoyed with ice cream, pancakes, or all by itself.

Vermont Shepherd Cheeses is the source for award-winning mountain sheep cheeses from Westminster, Vt. Its products (www.vermontshepherd.com) are the oldest and most well-known of the country's sheep and mixed-milk cheeses. They have won awards for Best Farmhouse Cheese in the country and Best of Show in the American Cheese Society's annual competition since 1993. Today, the family makes cheese in small, 10- to 30-wheel batches. Vermont Shepherd has been featured in The New York Times, Gourmet, Food and Wine, Esquire, and more.
