Burris Logistics adds three new board members
Burris Logistics, a national leader in controlled-temperature food distribution, has further strengthened its position in the industry with the appointment of three esteemed new members to its board of directors. Founded in 1925, Burris serves customers with one of the largest and most sophisticated controlled-temperature food distribution operations in the country, continually building on its legacy of integrity, quality and dependability.
This almost century-old established family business is the go-to distributor for major national retailers. Burris credits its success to the outstanding contributions of its workforce and the guidance from its nine-member board, which includes five respected outside business executives and four knowledgeable family members.
Among those joining the board this month are Cathy Pulos, vice president and chief people officer at Wawa Inc., a privately held company that operates more than 750 convenience store/gas stations along the Eastern Seaboard. At Wawa, Pulos has been credited for innovations and advances in the design and delivery of workforce services, including recruiting, hiring, compensation, benefits administration, risk management and quality assurance.
Entrepreneur Zach Buckner, with expertise in information technology and e-commerce, is also new to the Burris board. Buckner and one of his companies, Relay Foods, have been featured in national publications, and he is recognized as a leader in the evolving online grocery trade. Buckner brings a knowledge of freight, operations research, machine learning, text analytics, simulation, optimization, and computer architecture to the board table.
The newest family member to join the board is Allison Burris Castellanos, an educator and longtime advocate for the Hispanic community. Castellanos has taught English as a Second Language at Delaware Technical Community College for 17 years. She also serves on the Board of Trustees of the University of Delaware, and for many years has held leadership positions on the boards of La Esperanza Community Center, La Red Health Center and El Centro Cultural.
With the appointment of Castellanos, who replaced her father Howard Burris, the transition of fourth-generation Burris family members overseeing the business to the fifth generation is completed.
Other Burris family members on the board include Brad Hoopman, Scott Burris and Donnan R. "Donnie" Burris, who has been Burris Logistics chief executive officer since 2010.
They are joined by Chairman Jeffrey "Jeff" M. Swain, Eleuthère "Thère" I. du Pont and Bob Koerner.
In addition to Howard Burris, those departing the board are James L. Murray and Marvin "Skip" N. Schoenhals.
