Easterseals receives $25K grant from Discover Bank

Easterseals Delaware & Maryland’s Eastern Shore recently received a $25,000 grant through Discover Bank to help fund Supported Employment program for people with intellectual disabilities. Participants are able to find meaningful work and receive competitive wages with the assistance of an Easterseals employment specialist who serves as a natural support and provides on-the-job training.

“We are grateful for the continued, generous support of Discover Bank for our Supported Employment Program,” said Kenan Sklenar, Easterseals president/CEO. “Easterseals Supported Employment Program helps people with intellectual disabilities find a job in the community and supports them during their employment. WSFS earns A- senior debt rating by KBRA

For a third consecutive year, Kroll Bond Rating Agency has reaffirmed the senior debt rating of A- for WSFS Financial Corp., the parent company of WSFS Bank. The A- debt rating is among the highest that KBRA issues under its Bank Financial Strength Ratings scale. KBRA also reaffirmed WSFS’ subordinated debt rating of BBB+ and a short-term debt rating of K2. WSFS Bank, the company’s main subsidiary, received strong credit ratings as well, including an A rating for deposit and senior unsecured debt, a subordinated debt rating of A- and the short-term deposit and debt ratings of K1.

“KBRA’s reaffirmation of our high debt ratings is indicative that our company’s focus on delivering sustainable high performance, diversifying our fee income, and attracting and developing outstanding talent is giving us significant momentum,” said Dominic C. Canuso, WSFS executive vice president and chief financial officer.

KBRA noted WSFS’ improvement in core operating performance and the expectation that the company will continue to drive above-average earnings. In 2017, WSFS increased its fee revenue of total income by 19 percent from the previous year, which KBRA noted as a strength: “WSFS’ ability to derive a significant proportion of its revenue from stable and diversified noninterest revenue sources also underpins the ratings,” said the rating report.

New professional joins Law Office of Hudson, Jones, Jaywork & Fisher

The Law Office of Hudson, Jones, Jaywork & Fisher announced that Fred A. Townsend III has joined the firm as an of-counsel attorney.

A member of the bars of the State of Delaware and United States District Court since 1990, Townsend is a lifelong Delaware resident with deep roots in Kent and Sussex counties. He is a graduate of St. Andrew’s School, the University of Delaware and Delaware Law School of Widener University.

Townsend is former House Caucus attorney (1990-93), and he served as deputy insurance commissioner 1993-99. Returning to private practice in 2000, Townsend’s primary areas of practice have been real estate and land use law, insurance regulation and municipal law.

Townsend is a former Kent County Levy Court attorney and currently represents its board of adjustments. He is the solicitor for a number of towns in all three counties. His practice is focused on real estate law in Kent and Sussex counties which often includes corporate and land use matters.

The Chamber of Commerce for Greater Milford is seeking nominations for Citizen of the Year within the City of Milford. Nominees should be someone who has demonstrated outstanding achievement or an outstanding level of support in the community. Nominations are due by noon, Friday, June 29. Delaware Super Lawyers 2018 recognizes 10 Morris James attorneys

New internet radio station to promote area events

Edgewater Gold Radio is an internet oldies station broadcasting from Rehoboth Beach. Its format is live and local, featuring a great variety of music from the ‘50s through the ‘80s as well as pop vocals. Delmarva Power supports Special Olympics in 2018 Ride to the Tide

Delmarva Power continued its support for Special Olympics Delaware by sponsoring the organization’s annual Ride to the Tide fundraiser April 22. This is the eighth year the company has supported the event. The annual event has raised nearly $300,000 over 12 years of rides. This year, nearly 100 riders from Delmarva Power joined more than 1,400 bikers and passengers in raising $63,000 to support Special Olympics Delaware.

Partnering with Special Olympics Delaware, which provides sports training and athletic competition for more than 4,200 children and adults with intellectual disabilities, giving them continuing opportunities to develop physical fitness, demonstrate courage, experience joy and participate in a sharing of gifts, skills and friendship with their families, other Special Olympics athletes and the community, aligns with the company’s charitable goals of directly improving the quality of life for customers and communities across its service area.

Food trucks serve at Nassau Commons Tuesdays and Wednesdays

New aquatic specialist joins SOLitude Lake Management

SOLitude Lake Management welcomes aquatic specialist Trent Batson to the company’s growing team. Serving clients in Delaware and Maryland, Batson specializes in the management of nuisance aquatic weeds and algae in community ponds and stormwater management facilities, and is experienced in the collection and study of plant life. He also has a special interest in water-quality monitoring and gained experience working with the state of Delaware’s Citizen Monitoring Program. Salted Vines Vineyard & Winery receives chamber’s Best in Business award

The Bethany-Fenwick Area Chamber of Commerce presented its Best in Business Award to Salted Vines Vineyard & Winery in Fenwick Island. The award recognizes a member business that provides high-quality customer service above and beyond industry standards.

The Little Guys, a new business owned and operated by husband and wife team Kevin and Dawn Hart, has opened its doors to Delaware residents. Little Guys offers a wide variety of services from cleaning home, office or rentals to handyman services such as trim, drywall, small repairs, installations, junk removal and everything in between. Dawn is the former owner of Girl Friday, a cleaning and odd job business, and Kevin has a carpentry and construction background.

Financial services firm Edward Jones ranks No. 5 on the 2018 Fortune 100 Best Companies to Work For list in its 19th appearance on the prestigious list, according to global research and consulting firm Great Place to Work and FORTUNE magazine. The firm is the highest-ranking financial services firm on the list.
