Cancer Support Community-DE holds walk

May 26, 2016

The Sussex County Cancer Support Community-DE held Sussex Survive and Thrive Walk May 14. The walk consisted of a 10-mile walk beginning at Gordons Pond in Cape Henlopen State Park. A 3.5-mile walk, also beginning at Gordons Pond, was held, with a 1.5-mile walk planned, but the survivors joined in with the 3.5 mile walkers.

It was a beautiful morning to walk through Cape Henlopen State Park and down the iconic Rehoboth Beach Boardwalk while raising funds for the Cancer Support Community in Sussex County. Special thanks to the Forgotten Mile Ale House for hosting the after walk party and to WRDE, Applebee’s, Kendall Furniture, Cape Henlopen Elks Lodge, Lewes Automall, Quality Inn & Suites, Realtor Nitan Soni, and the Jolly Trolley for their support. Last, but not least, thanks went out to volunteers and walkers who came together for a few brief hours but whose fundraising efforts will bring a lasting impact to cancer survivors and their families.

The Cancer Support Community is part of a national nonprofit organization that provides support, education and hope to people with cancer and their loved ones. Through participation in professionally led support groups, educational workshops and mind/body classes, people affected by cancer learn vital skills that enable them to regain control, reduce isolation and restore hope regardless of the stage of disease.

At the Cancer Support Community Delaware, all programs are offered at no charge to participants and all money raised in Sussex County will assist in providing programs and support services across the county. More information about the Cancer Support Community is available at www.cancersupportdelaware.org.
