As I have had the privilege of talking to now over 250-plus neighbors and business owners around Rehoboth Beach, I have heard a few themes.
One is this: "It seems that our community is still somewhat divided. How would you try to bring us more together?"
I believe that we can start with this election. We should have informative policy debates between Cooper-Gay and the other candidates. These debates should focus on facts, experience, and what each of us can do for our community. My background is in positively building coalitions and consensus to move actions forward.
I commit to bringing this experience to Rehoboth Beach, and I intend to expand on this experience in the upcoming candidate forums.
Two, there continues to be widespread concern about our fiscal state. While there has been a dispute about the size of the city hall overages, there really is no disagreement that there is a budget overrun. Let's prioritize the development and implementation of a current long-term plan, tied to the budget, and execute this plan using new, transparent, disciplined, management practices.
There is an effort started, but make it real. Let's also ask our candidates how they would ensure that this plan and budget gets executed, to guarantee the fiscal viability of our town. I will answer this question in my next letter, and at the forums.
Three, I enjoyed meeting so many of our neighbors at my July 2 event, and talking about the things that are important to us all. Thanks to those who came out and engaged in real conversations about the issues. We have so much to be proud of in this community, and I want you to know your voices matter.
I heard from many people that they are unaware of how qualified I am to represent you. You said that once people hear what I bring to the table, they will know I'm the right person to elect.
So here's a little more about me: I've been a public servant for over 30 years. Over those years I led, managed and had oversight of billions of dollars in investments and projects. I had the honor of serving my country in our nation's Army and led soldiers in many assignments, both in the U.S. and overseas. I haven't just shown up for a few meetings ... I've been in the trenches working hard for the citizens of our great country. I grew up with a strong work ethic and am known above all for my integrity - and I want to put it to work for all of you and this community I love.
I believe your voices matter, and you deserve to be represented by someone who will listen and work hard for you.
