Cape 9-10 softball all-stars fall 7-0 to a powerful Laurel team

Has to bounce back in lower bracket
July 14, 2016

The Cape 9-10-year-old softball all-stars ran into a buzz saw June 12 in Laurel pitcher Kylee Hill, who threw a no-hitter in a 7-0 shutout over previously unbeaten Cape. Cape had defeated Nanticoke 10-0 and Millsboro 3-2 earlier in the District 3 tournament. Cape has to fight its way up from the lower bracket to challenge for the District 3 banner. They are set to play Lower Sussex at 7 p.m., Thursday, July 14, in Georgetown.

McKenna Boyle took the loss for Cape, but not before striking out seven Laurel batters. In the four-inning mercy rule, no-hit win over Nanticoke, Boyle put 13 batters in the book via the strikeout. She mowed down eight batters in the 3-2 win over Millsboro.

“We’ve been riding on McKenna’s shirttail in the pitching circle,” said Cape coach Pat Brown. “We took a tough one with Laurel. They have a hard thrower on the mound.”
