Cape baseball cuts down Woodbridge 13-0

Four homers pace the Vikings
April 24, 2018

Cape sophomore Jake Gelof slammed two homers, and his older brother Zack and Ryan Gibbons each added one as the Vikings powered to a 13-0 win over the Blue Raiders.

Junior starting pitcher Mason Fluharty set batters down in order in the first inning to set the pace for the Vikings, then the Cape bombs exploded at the plate.

Zack Gelof went 4-for-4 with a homer in the first inning. Jake Gelof went 3-for-3 with two home runs and four RBIs, and Luke Johnson had a pair of hits, including a double driving in three RBIs. Zach Savage went 2-for-2 driving in a run; Gibbons delivered with a double and a two-run homer, and Fluharty helped himself at the plate with an RBI sac fly to center.

“We swung the bats very well,” said Cape coach Ben Evick of his team’s 12-hit performance. “We also got great pitching from Mason for four innings and Sam [Johnson] in the fifth.”

Fluharty struck out six Blue Raiders, while allowing only one to reach base via the walk. Johnson came in to strike out two.

Dylan Perdue took the loss for Woodbridge, while Tyler Yoder had the only hit.

Cape will travel to Indian River Thursday, April 26.
