Cape boys’ lax falls to Sallies 16-3

April 16, 2018

Sallies jumped out to an 11-0 halftime lead and didn’t look back as the state’s top team downed No. 3 Cape 16-3 April 14 at the Dave Reynolds Lacrosse Festival at Wesley's Scott D. Miller Stadium.

Cape couldn’t get on track as Brett Hobbs, who scored five goals with three assists, led the Sals’ powerful offense to help move Salesianum to 4-2 on the season. Cape drops to 5-2.

“They came out really hard early and caught us on our heels,” said Cape coach Mark D’Ambrogi. “They were aggressive all over the field and caught us off guard. Our defense did a good job, but had too much pressure and couldn't make the clears early.”

Cape broke the shutout with a goal from Adem Tekmen in the third period followed by tallies from Ryan Diacont and Luke D’Ambrogi.

Sean Griffith made seven stops in the cage for Cape.

“We’ve got to do a better job of taking care of the ball,” said coach D’Ambrogi. “We have to play smarter.”

Cape will travel to Smyrna Wednesday, April 18, to take on the Eagles.
