Cape boys’ lacrosse cranks the rock in 18-4 win over Poly

Balanced attack leads to Vikings’ victory
April 27, 2017

The Cape boys’ lacrosse team hit the Polytech grass field running and didn’t stop until the final whistle sounded, as they rolled over the Panthers 18-4 in Woodside. The Vikings ended the first quarter up 11-0 and went into the halftime break at 14-2.

Cape spread the scoring out with Jaycob Trimmer, Luke D'Ambrogi and Jake Brown scoring three times. Erik-Stephane Stancofski, Greg Boyce, Ryan Diacont, and Aarin Burton scored twice, while Timmy Kelley and Holden Kammerer each had a single tally.

“We started the game with a lot of intensity,” said Cape coach Mark D’Ambrogi. “The ball movement and unselfishness led to assisted goals.”

Boyce and Luke D’Ambrogi led the team with three assists, while Jaycob Trimmer had two. Jake Brown and Aarin Burton each had one helper.

Cape took 27 shots in the contest.

The Cape coach was excited about the play at face-off and clearing the ball.

“Liam Zolper did a fantastic job on face-offs,” he said. “Dillon [Mocci] and Holden [Kammerer] started off several fast breaks, and when the ball got to the box, the attack shared the ball well.”

Zolper won 18 of 24 face-offs.

The Vikings goalies, Brendan Kane, Ryan Bixler and Sean Griffith, had a total of four saves.

The Vikings will host Caesar Rodney Wednesday, May 3.
