Cape boys’ lacrosse couldn’t get home from their own house for the third time this season Friday night at Legends Stadium, losing to visiting Salesianum 10-8 as Sallies scored a pair in the final three minutes to earn the victory.

Cape, which lost home games to Appoquinimink 7-6 and Caesar Rodney 6-5 earlier in the season, dropped to 10-3 on the season. The Vikings had a rescheduled home game against Worcester Prep for Monday, May 15, and will play at Wilmington Friends (12-0) Wednesday, May 17.

Coach Mark D’Ambrogi said, ”We played well early and finished our first couple of shots. I think that gave us some confidence. Defensively, we matched up well and played good help defense. However, we failed to clear a few times that resulted in transition goals and extra possessions for them. We have to work on our clearing game and clean up our ground ball play. Our effort was good the whole game.”

Cape goalie Brendan Kane was quick in the cage the entire night and finished with 14 saves. ”He has really stepped into his leadership role and set a great example for everyone,” D’Ambrogi said.

Cape got two-goal efforts from Erik-Stephane Stancofski, Brock Maloomian and Luke D’Ambrogi. Jake Trimmer and Jake Brown each scored one.

Cape assists came from D’Ambrogi 2, Zolper, Stancofski, and Maloomian.

Salesianum goals were scored by Michael Drake 4, Brett Hobbs 2, Taylor Witherell, James Hobbs, Bradley Santore and Patrick Drake.

Sallies assists came from Patrick Drake 2, Chad Cannon and Michael Drake.

Brady Emmi had 9 saves for Sallies.

Sallies (10-3) closes out the regular season Tuesday, May 16, hosting Caesar Rodney.
