Cape Carousel: 20 years and still growing strong

After-school enrichment program broadens students' horizons
May 10, 2018

The Cape Carousel after-school enrichment program has touched more than 8,500 students during its 20 years in the Cape Henlopen School District.

More than 750 unique courses have been offered by skilled instructors. As many as 40 classes are offered each year covering a wide array focusing on fine arts, technology, language, natural sciences, physical education, world cultures, culinary arts and more. Most students are grades 4-6.

Three free sessions are offered each school year for six or seven weeks. Class size is limited to 12 students who share their accomplishments with their families at the end of each session on community night or as part of parent's visitation day.

Coordinator Dana Long said the purpose of the program is to create an environment for students to celebrate their enthusiasm for learning through the development of their multiple talents. “Working together with instructors, parents and members of the community, students have the opportunity to extend their learning, to explore their interests and to develop their potential,” Long said.
