Cape Class of 2017 receives $2 million in scholarships
The Class of 2017 top male and female athletes of the year are (l-r) Sarah Hyde, Amelia Nigh-Johnson, Cory Lawson, Sarah Rambo and Molly Weeks. Lawson won the 2017 DIAA Wrestling state championship in the 160 weight class, and the Cape girls’ swim relay team took top honors in the 200 medley relay and the 200 freestyle relay at the DIAA State Swim Championships at the University of Delaware. Holden Kammerer was awarded the prestigious Kevin Kennedy Award from Cape Principal Brian Donahue. He also received the President’s Award for Educational Excellence.
Phoebe Callard receives the Principal’s Award for Service from Cape Principal Brian Donahue. She also received the Bethany Area Repertory Theater Schoarship, Michael C. Ferguson Achievement Award, Pace University Honors Opportunity Scholarship, Pace University Honors Scholarship, President’s Award for Educational Excellence, The Dyson College of Arts and Sciences Performing Arts Scholarship and the Worth M. Hudson Scholarship.
Erik-Stephane Stancofski receives the Principal’s Award for Leadership from Cape Principal Brian Donahue. He also received the Michael C. Ferguson Achievement Award, President’s Award for Educational Excellence, Swarthmore College 2017 McCabe Scholar, WGMD 2017 Scholarship Nominee for Male Student of the Year.
Mari Horsey receives the Tammy Hopkins Scholarship Award from Vaughn Hopkins. She also received the Darlene K. Rust Nursing Scholarship, Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Celebration Organization, Sussex County Scholarship, William C. Jason Comprehensive High School Alumni Association Scholarship.
Katie Boyer receives the Jeffrey Burnham Scholarship Award from his wife Tammy Burnham. She also received the David B. Clifton Memorial Award for Agriculture, Dewey Beach Lions Club John Waples Educational Scholarship, Jeri L. Berc and Roni D. Posner Scholarship Award, Milton garden Club Frankie-Ditman Memorial Scholarship, Milton Lions Foundation Scholarship Award and the T.A. Shipley Scholarship.

The Cape Henlopen High School Class of 2017 was honored at a Senior Awards Ceremony June 2 at the Cape Henlopen Theater where students received more than $2 million in scholarships for further education at colleges, universities and U.S. service academies.
