Cape elementary after school programs hold rallies

November 4, 2016

Students, families, businesses and community leaders came together Oct. 20 at three Cape elementary schools in order to celebrate the achievements of after school program students and draw attention to the need for more after school programs. Over 7,500 elementary schools across the country had similar rallies.

Milton, H.O. Brittingham and Rehoboth elementary schools showcased their afterschool programs funded by federal 21st Century grants.

Students conducted science experiments, performed musical numbers, played instruments and created art as a demonstration of what happens in Cape's afterschool programs on a weekly basis.

Ned Gladfelter, H.O. Brittingham principal, expressed gratitude about the partnership between Clear Space Theatre Company and H.O.B. "Today, guests were able to celebrate the remarkable work that students are doing with our partners at Clear Space. It is a powerful reminder of the importance of our after school programs,” he said.

At Milton Elementary School, parents and guests witnessed the success of the Friends Afterschool at Milton Elementary program. Principal Beth Conaway said, "Our students continue to learn and grow during our afterschool programs. The learning that occurs during our F.A.M.E program enriches our students' academic experience here."

At Rehoboth Elementary School, parents and guests joined in their student’s’ learning sessions that included music, exercise, technology, cooking and various other pathways. "Our Rehoboth Empowers Dreams program is a huge asset to our students and community. It connects students with local merchants and business owners encourages them to pursue their dreams," said Principal Susan Donahue.

Each after school program also offers tutoring and parent curriculum nights.
