Cape field hockey beats Laurel 10-0

Vikings to host Good Counsel Saturday
September 21, 2017

It was a dark and stormy night - maybe not so dark - but the 5 p.m. field hockey start at Champions Stadium Sept. 19 was car wash cloudy with a steady spray of horizontal rain from Tropical Storm Jose coming in from the northwest.

Cape was back on the field for the first time since losing at Dover 2-1 a week earlier. But the Vikings hit the turf slipping and sliding, and when Alia Marshall scored her first goal of the season at 28:20 on an assist from Carly Truitt, it was lights on with Cape playing like Cape.

The score was 6-0 at the half and 10-0 for the game, with Cape enjoying a 29-0 advantage in shots on goal.

Whatever any of that meant, Cape was headed toward the claws of the Delmar Wildcats for a Thursday, Sept. 21, fall equinox contest, which for the first time in forever will be the only time these two powerhouses meet on the field for the season. Hockey has split into two divisions for postseason play with Cape in D1 and Delmar in D2.

Cape goals were scored by Lindsay Monigle and Kaylie Truitt with two each and Alia Marshall, Chloe Schaeffer, Amanda Sponaugle, Annie Judge, Anna Harrington and Carly Truitt with one each.
