Cape girls’ basketball keeps it close, but falls to Padua 64-60

Vikings battle hard against Pandas’ height
December 24, 2017

The Lady Vikings came to within four points in the fourth quarter, but ran out of time as they fell to Padua 64-60 Dec. 21 in Wilmington.

The Vikings, who fought hard with the Pandas, were led by Niya Mosley with 15 points. Sydney Pedersen and Dania Cannon each picked up 10 points.

“I told the girls that I was really proud of them,” said Cape coach Lauren Carra. ”I was really happy with their effort and their determination.”

The Vikings had 15 fouls in the first half and were down by 12 at one point in the game, but clawed their way back. Cape outscored Padua 19-14 in the fourth quarter.

“Not one of our kids gave up,” Carra said. “We continued to battle. “Last year, we would have put our heads down and lost by 20 or 25. We made adjustments, and they worked around the foul situation, and we finished out the game the best that we could. I couldn’t be more proud of these girls.”

The Lady Vikings return to their home court Tuesday, Jan. 2, when they welcome Sussex Tech for a Northern Division matchup.
