Cape sophomore Lexi Watkins scored 20 points as the Vikings took an early lead and never looked back, defeating Smyrna 52-40 Feb. 14 at home. The Lady Vikings move to 12-7 on the season with one regular-season game remaining.

Mallory Jones and Sydney Pedersen scored eight and seven points, respectively, in the Vikings’ win.

Cape took a 21-15 lead into halftime. Each team picked up the pace in the second half, with the Vikings outscoring the Eagles 31-25 to seal the victory.

“I think we pulled together and played really well, especially after Dania [Cannon] went out with her injury,” said senior center Abby E’Nama.

“I thought our kids did a really good job of keeping their composure,” said head coach Lauren Carra. ”Especially in that second half when things got a little bit out of hand. The kids held themselves together and we were able to pull it through.”

The 12-7 Lady Vikings travel to Sussex Central Thursday, Feb. 16, to face the 13-6 Golden Knights.

The first round of the DIAA State Tournament tips off Tuesday, Feb. 28.
