Cape girls’ basketball loses to Central in lackluster style

Vikings look forward to state tournament
February 21, 2017

The Cape Henlopen girls’ basketball team played a game they wish they could forget Feb. 16, as they dropped a 37-28 decision to the Golden Knights at Sussex Central. Cape took a seven-point lead into the second quarter, but the Lady Knights led by one point going into the locker room at halftime. Cape couldn’t contain the Knights in the second half, as the Vikings were outscored 18-10. Cape finishes the regular season with a 12-8 record, while the Knights moved to 14-6 on the year.

Cape’s Lexi Watkins, Sydney Pedersen and Abby E’Nama each had six points for the Vikings. Tashara Houston led the Knights with nine points.

The junior varsity Vikings had a little better luck, as they downed the JV Knights 26-3. Due to a lack of players from injury and family matters, the Vikings played with their two managers, Mari Horsey and Angel Cox.

Each team awaits the draw for the DIAA State Tournament, which is set to begin Tuesday, Feb. 28.
