January 23, 2018

The Cape girls’ swim team moved to 6-2 on the season with a 91-79 victory over the Seahawks Jan. 18 at the Salisbury YMCA.

The 200 medley relay team of Madelyn McGreevy, Amaya Daisey, Aya Daisey and Erin Morrissey took first with a time of 2:02.50. McGreevy won the individual medley in 2:32.46. Aya Daisey garnered first in the 50 free with a time of 26.83, while sister Amaya took first in the 100 freestyle with a 1:00.07. The 200 free relay team of Daisey, Daisey, Morrissey and Julie Heffernan took first in 1:52.57. Sophomore Gianna Vayda finished the Cape scoring with a first-place finish in the 100 breaststroke in 1:19.79.

The Vikings boys dropped to .500 on the season with an 88-82 loss to the Seahawks despite winning eight of the 11 events, proving depth is advantageous in competitive swimming.

The 200 medley relay team of Thomas Weeks, Josh Toback, Ryan Bixler and Dylan Kaplan took first in 1:52.63. Bixler followed with a 2:02.53 win in the 200 free and the 100 free with a 54.16. Josh Toback won the 200 IM with a 2:14.37 and the 100 butterfly in 59.84. Weeks won the grueling 500 free with a 5:28.87 and finished the scoring for the Vikings with a 1:01.70 in the 100 backstroke.

“The matchups were definitely a challenge for us,” said Bixler. “Even though we won eight events, our team missed the second- and third-place finish in some of the events. Stephen Decatur’s depth won the event.”

The Vikings will host Indian River Tuesday, Jan. 23, at the Sussex Family YMCA in Rehoboth.
