Cape girls and Sussex Tech boys double down at track tri-meet

April 13, 2018

Cape track coaches George Pepper and Rob Percival have each been at it for 40 years. They are both crafty and cagey, and their athletes will contest for every point over 18 events. You can’t watch a meet from the stands and get a handle on how they are doing. Cape puts points in the cart like an online shopper.

At an April 10 tri-meet on the Milford track versus the Bucs and Sussex Tech Ravens, the Cape girls ran, jumped and threw implements en route to an 87-49 win over Sussex Tech and a 103-25 win over Milford.

Cape won the 4-by-800 relay (Hadley Rhue, Taylor Johnson, Timesha Cannon, Gracie Oliverio) and the 4-by-100 relay (Aya Daisey, Amaya Daisey, Kayla Mathe, Timesha Cannon). Olivia Brozefsky won the 1,600 in 5:56, the 3,200 in 12:26 and the pole vault in 7-feet-6-inches. Ce’yra Middleton won the shot put, while Aya Daisey took the high jump.

The Cape girls are now 4-0 on the dual-meet season.

LaKendra Harpe of Sussex Tech was a triple winner, securing victories in the 100 in 12.7, 200 in 25.4 and 400 in 59.7.

In the boys’ meets, Sussex Tech beat Cape 74-71 and Milford 84-60. Cape beat Milford 89-57.

Most downstate track teams will be in action Saturday, April 14, at the Keith Burgess meet at Lake Forest High School.
