Cape Henlopen Educational Foundation announces new board members
Cape Henlopen Educational Foundation has elected five community leaders to three-year terms on its board of directors. They are Barbara Anderson, Greg Berman, Jennifer Glenn and Gavin Radka of Rehoboth Beach and Eileen Baker of Lewes.
Anderson is president of Barbara Anderson Designs, a full-service design company, and part owner of a new venture, Driftwood Designs. Before moving to Delaware, she served for over six years on the Southern Chester County Medical Center fundraising board. She has also worked with the American Diabetes Association in Wilmington on Christmas in Wilmington and with Juvenile Diabetes on a design show home at the Manse. Anderson is a member of the National Home Builders Association. Her granddaughter is a sixth-grader at Beacon Middle School.
Baker is a contractual school psychologist for the Cape Henlopen and Milford school districts, and works part time with the University of Delaware Center for Disabilities Studies as a positive behavior support coach. She has also written a children's book, "Chunkin Punkins," which sold 3,000 copies. She and her husband Jim are Villanova graduates, and Eileen attended the University of Delaware for her master's degree and doctorate in education. Her two children attend Shields Elementary.
Berman has taught for nine years in the Cape Henlopen School District and was named Cape High School Teacher of the Year in 2015. Currently a Spanish teacher, Berman taught English and Spanish in Japan for three years before coming to Cape. He co-manages the high school's Rachel's Challenge anti-bullying/inclusion program and, when not teaching, he loves to travel. He has taken two groups of students abroad, to Costa Rica and most recently to Spain, and hopes to take a group to Cuba. A culinary enthusiast, Berman formerly owned the restaurant delivery service Food 2 Go.
Jennifer Glenn is office manager at Creative Courtyards, a hardscape/landscape services company affiliated with Schell Brothers. She manages the company's accounting, purchasing, workflow and contractual functions. She previously served as commercial marketing manager for Williams Insurance Agency and account manager for Lyons Insurance, and began her career as an underwriter with AIG in Philadelphia. Glenn is a graduate of Immaculata University with a bachelor of science in sociology and business administration, and has been an active volunteer with several Cape-area nonprofits. The Glenns' daughter Korie is a fourth-grade student at Rehoboth Elementary.
Radka is an assistant vice president with locally owned and operated County Bank, and began his career in financial services with T. Rowe Price Associates in Baltimore. He attended the University of Maryland in College Park and Towson University. In the community, Radka serves on the Board of Directors of the Lewes Chamber of Commerce and as treasurer of the Greater Lewes Community Village, and volunteers with Meals on Wheels and Atlantic Lacrosse. His sons Alec and Andrew attend Shields Elementary.
"Our new board members bring impressive leadership credentials and skill sets to the CHEF organization," said CHEF President Rick Grier-Reynolds. "We welcome their assistance in helping us provide educational resources to the students and teachers of the Cape Henlopen School District."
Currently beginning its 10th Anniversary Year, CHEF has funded over 200 teacher and excellence grant requests, as well as performing arts scholarships, STEM programs, and career and character development initiatives totaling over $250,000 for Cape schools.
