To benefit Friends of Cape Henlopen State Park
September 20, 2016

It is getting to be the time of year when people with bird feeders begin to think about fall and the Annual Friends of Cape Henlopen State Park Bird Seed Sale. For years now, the Friends’ annual sale has provided an economical way to stock up on seeds for the winter.

The items available, all premium seeds, include various types of sunflower seeds, peanuts, thistle, safflower, white millet, corn, suet, and a number of wild bird seed mixes. There are more than 20 choices as to variety and size of bag.

Sale Chair Sandee Coyle wants everyone to have plenty of time to make selections this year. The pickup date is Oct. 22 and Coyle says orders may be placed until Oct. 8. The order forms are available at the park office and the Seaside Nature Center, and at www.friendsofcapehenlopen.org. Prices are listed on the order form. Any Friends member is eligible for a 10 percent discount. Send the completed form along with a check to: Birdseed Sale, c/o FOCHSP, P.O. Box 132, Nassau, DE 19969.

Seeds can be picked up Oct. 22 at Cape Henlopen State Park's Maintenance Garage between 10 a.m. and 12 p.m. Friends volunteers will be there to load the seed into vehicles.

The Friends of Cape Henlopen State Park is a nonprofit organization made up of volunteers who donate their time to promote one of the crown jewels of Delaware's state parks. They are strongly committed to public education about the park and believe that education leads to appreciation, conservation, and preservation. In addition to their educational activities, Friends volunteers participate in a monthly Trails Day and a variety of other direct activities within the park.

Finally, Friends raise money for specific park projects such as the Bike Barn, restoration of the Hawk Watch, and their most recently completed project, the playground. For more information about the Friends current and past projects and for information about joining or volunteering, visit www.friendsofcapehenlopen.org, email fochsp@gmail.com, or call 302-858-6127.
