The enigma that is Caesar Rodney field hockey didn’t do much to help Cape figure itself out Sept. 15 on the Riders’ slow pitch for a hard ball. The Vikings won 3-0, outshooting the Riders 25-0.

Cape has early season wins over Smyrna 4-0 and CR 3-0 with a combined 46-3 advantage in shots, but looking down the road is 3-0 Delmar with a goal differential of 26-1 and a shot advantage of 114-6.

Cape goals were scored by Annie Judge at 23:45 and Jackie Cannon at 13:07 from Judge for a 2-0 first half advantage.

“We played well in the first half, but not so great in the second,” said assistant coach Debbie Windett, who used to be the head coach of the Riders. “We are playing the roster because we are young and still discovering out chemistry and combinations.”

Cape junior varsity beat the Riders 7-0 with a 31-0 advantage in shots. Scoring for Cape were Alexandra Wilson with three goals and single goals from Lola Messick, Talbot Buck, Paige Ludwicki and Ryleigh Elliott.

Field hockey is about to get real the last two weeks of September with Cape hosting Dover Tuesday, Sept. 20; Severna Park (Md.) Saturday, Sept. 24; and Delmar Thursday, Sept. 29.

Another big Henlopen Conference matchup is unbeaten Polytech (3-0) at unbeaten Milford (3-0) Tuesday, Sept. 20.
