Cape hockey shuts down Sussex Central 6-0

Vikings step into minefield playing Indian Riven then Polytech
October 10, 2017

The Golden Knights of Sussex Central show up for field hockey games and play hard like Georgetown girls did back when Debbie Windett was coaching there in the 1980s.

Goalie Morgan Burton was making saves and directing traffic in the first half as the team trailed 1-0 at halftime. An assistant coach sent encouragement for the sidelines, “Morgan, stay woke!”

Burton faced 45 shots and 24 corners for the game and managed 24 saves and allowed 6 goals for the game won by Cape 6-0. The next night at home, she held Woodbridge to no goals in a scoreless tie.

Central dropped to 1-7-1 on the season.

Cape improved to 7-2 thanks to goals from Cam Smith 2, Alia Marshall 2, Annie Judge and Lindsay Monigle.

Monigle with 2 and Marcella Sabbagh were credited with assists.

Cape will play at Indian River (5-1-2)  Tuesday, Oct. 10, at 4 p.m then host Polytech (5-2) Thursday, Oct. 12, at 6 p.m.
