Cape hockey wins Senior Night game 6-0 over CR

Vikings improve to 11-2 on season with Smyrna and Polytech next

The Cape field hockey team honored 10 seniors prior to the Oct. 26 game at Champions Stadium against mysterious Caesar Rodney. Then the Vikings went out and won the game 6-0 to improve to 11-2.

The Riders, and goalie Lauren Caulk with 25 saves in the Cape match, closed out the season 6-9 after a Saturday loss to Caravel.

Cape outshot the Riders 32-0, with a 21-2 advantage in corners.  

Carly Truitt had the only first-half goal for the Vikings, scoring unassisted at 21:55.

The Vikings started finding the cage in the second half, as five different players scored, beginning with Anna Stancofski from Annie Judge, then Amanda Sponaugle, Anna Harrington from Lindsay Monigle, Alia Marshall, and Cami Smith from Katie Frederick.

Cape plays at Smyrna (7-5-1) Tuesday, Oct. 31, at 4 p.m., then the Vikings will close out the regular season at home Thursday, Nov. 2, at 4 p.m. versus Polytech (9-3).

The postseason tournaments begin Tuesday, Nov. 7. This is the first year competition will be split into two divisions, with eight teams qualifying in Division I and 12 in Division II.

Cape is a Division I school, while unbeaten Delmar and Tower Hill are Division II schools.
