Cape snaps and crackles in 16-4 bad-weather win over Peter and Paul

Florida-bound Eddy Shoop scores four goals
April 26, 2017

The weather held off all day, but the rain began to fall as the Sabres from Sts. Peter and Paul in Easton, Md., went to the draw control circle to face Cape at Champions Stadium.

The Sabres are not a team to be taken lightly, as they have already risen up and bitten Worcester Prep this season.

In 2014, Peter and Paul surprised a good Cape team 14-12, and back in April 2009 at Cape, the game ended in a 5-5 tie due to dangerous lightning.

Wind-driven northeast rains turned umbrellas upside down, but there was no lightning, just electricity in the Cape sticks. The Vikings sizzled to a 7-0 lead in the first seven minutes of the game and cruised home under a running clock for a 16-4 victory.

Cape improved to 7-2 on the season, as the Vikings prepare for a home game against the Polytech Panthers Wednesday, April 26, at 6:30 p.m. Polytech has lost to Ursuline 15-12 and Archmere 14-9.

Leading the scoring for Cape were Eddy Shoop with four goals, Katie Klabe with three, Lindsay Monigle and Chloe Schaeffer with two goals, and single goals from Mallory Jones, Alia Marshall, Victoria Lockwood, Mary Grace Cannon and Kaylie Truitt.

Izzy Cryne and Vienna Iacona combined for seven saves. The Vikings outshot the Sabres 23-11.

Note: Cape leading scorer and captain Cailey Thornburg missed the game after injuring her knee versus Queen Anne’s County April 22.
