Cape soccer run over by the Riders 9-0

Vikings still have tournament hopes
May 15, 2017

The Vikings girls’ soccer team ran into a buzzsaw Thursday, May 11, as they traveled to Riders Stadium and fell 9-0 to a very skilled Caesar Rodney (10-3) squad. They remain on the bubble for the DIAA Tournament.

“We gave up two goals very early; that was unexpected,” said Cape coach Patrick Kilby. “It changed our plan only minutes into the match. We were severely outmatched. CR's speed and technical ability really made it hard for us to put any type of possession or momentum together.”

Six different Riders put the ball into the cage nine times off 18 shots while the Vikings took just four shots. Cape freshman goalkeeper Lucy Sirandes made eight saves in the game.

The Vikings travel to Dover Tuesday, May 16, to face the Senators in the regular-season finale.

The Vikings are hoping they fall off the bubble on the DIAA Tournament side for the May 20 first round.
