Move to 5-4 on the season
April 29, 2017

The Cape soccer team improved its record to 5-4 with a 2-0 win over rival Sussex Central April 27 at Legends Stadium.

Sophomore Brooke Hollingsworth opened the scoring at the 38-minute mark off a corner kick by Brayden Fannin. Lindsey Swontek followed with a goal at the 56-minute mark with an assist from Hollingsworth.

“We created a lot of chances with our transition,” said Cape coach Patrick Kilby. “We utilized space and could have made more scoring possibilities with that. It’s always good to get a conference win.”

Brooke Hollingsworth continues to be a scoring machine from her striker position picking up her seventh goal of the season.

“Brooke has made a great amount of growth since she was a freshman,” said Cape coach Patrick Kilby. “You don’t really see that amount too often these days.”

Freshman goalkeeper Lucy Siranides picked up her second shut out of the season making two saves.

“Lucy (Siranides) had a great game,” said Kilby. “She did what she had to do and made the stops when we needed them.”

Cape took 13 shots on the cage while Central keeper Baleigh Lambert made 11 stops for the Knights.

Cape travels to Wilmington Christian Monday, May 1 to face the Warriors.
