Cape state park to host postcard-writing day of service event Jan. 15

January 12, 2018

The public is invited to join Delaware State Parks in celebrating the Martin Luther King Jr. Day of Service – A Day On Not A Day Off, by visiting the Biden Center at Cape Henlopen State Park from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m., Monday, Jan. 15. Participants can take part in a service project to write postcards for Postcard Connect, a nonprofit movement that uses postcards to spread inspiration throughout the country.

Volunteer firefighter Trey Small started the program in 2014 when he had friends fill out postcards to send to neighbors, veterans, and hospitalized children. The popularity spread, and soon Small started getting requests from all over the country to send postcards to friends, veterans, military personnel, senior centers, children in hospitals and more. Postcard Connect now produces its own postcards, attends events, and sends thousands of postcards every year.

What goes on the postcard? Anything and everything, including funny stories, inspirational quotes, personal insights, jokes, recipes, amazing places, etc. Contact Lee Temby at CHSP, 302-644-5005 for more information.
