Cape students attend Latino American Summit

Five Cape Henlopen High School students attended the third annual Latino American Summit held Nov. 3 at Delaware Tech Georgetown. The Cape Henlopen High School JROTC Color Guard opened the summit. Students learned valuable lessons pertaining to civics, rights, leadership skills focused on the theme, "Connecting through Civic Engagement."

Cape teacher Jerry Lindale accompanied students Sthefany Monterroza Barrera, Rosalinda Leon, José Hernández Sorto, David Hernández and América López. The students had the opportunity to meet and talk with Gov. Jack Markell.

Students also sat in on sessions that included college preparedness, high school and college requirements, social justice, neighborhood health organizations, promoting positive citizenship and empowering Latino families, economic development and volunteerism in communities.
