Cape students experience Costa Rican culture during spring break

April 22, 2018

Cape Henlopen High School students had the opportunity to take the trip of a lifetime over their recent spring break vacation.

From March 28 to April 3, 17 students and eight teachers enjoyed a cultural experience in Costa Rica. Students were divided into groups of two or three and stayed with host families for the seven-day trip.

Costa Rica is a Spanish-speaking country in Central America. Students and teachers were able to practice their Spanish language skills with their host families and immerse themselves in the country’s culture.

“Students were able to participate in an authentic cooking class, dance classes and volunteer some of their time at a local orphanage,” said Greg Berman, a Cape Henlopen High School teacher  and trip organizer. “While volunteering at the orphanage, students painted the beauty salon wall and spent quality time with the small children.”

The students also had the opportunity to go ziplining, visit Manuel Antonio National Park and experience the Baldi Hot Springs and La Paz Waterfall and Gardens. “Between the food, the daily excursions and time spent with host families, our students had a fantastic trip with many memories,” Berman said. “We’re very grateful for our wonderful tour guides and host families who so graciously showed us around their beautiful country.”
