Cape swimmers compete at states

Cape swimmers from the boys’ and girls’ teams took their best shot at the DIAA State Swimming Championships Feb. 24-25. 

Aya Daisey had the top individual performances for the girls’ team, finishing eighth in the 50-yard freestyle in 25.36 and ninth in the 100-yard butterfly in 1:02.85. Madeyln McGreevy placed 14th in the 200 individual medley. The 200 freestyle relay team Amaya Daisey, McGreevy, Erin Morrissey and Aya Daisey finished sixth overall in 1:44.42, while the 200 medley relay of McGreevy, Gianna Vayda, Aya Daisey and Morrissey was 12th. The 400 free relay of Amaya Daisey, Lindsay Reynolds, Madison Buchwald and Morrissey was 15th in 4:01.36. Cape finished 12th with 63 points.

On the boys’ side, Josh Toback finished 15th in the 200 individual medley in 2:07.67, which was the fastest Cape time in the event ever at the state championship meet. The 200 free relay team of Ryan Bixler, Thomas Weeks, Dylan Kaplan and Toback earned 12th place in 1:34.17, while the 400 free relay of Bixler, Weeks, James Heid and Toback was 12th in 3:28.78. Cape finished 21st with 22 points.
