In advance of his Jan. 17 inauguration, Gov.-elect John Carney continues to name his cabinet-level nominees.

Most recently, Jan. 9, Carney announced he has selected Brigadier General Carol A. Timmons as the next adjutant general of the Delaware National Guard.

Timmons is currently the assistant adjutant general, responsible for leading the Delaware Air National Guard and commanding an authorized force of 1,100 airmen. She is a veteran of Operations Desert Shield, Desert Storm, Southern Watch, Joint Guard, Iraqi Freedom, and Enduring Freedom. In 2008, she earned a Bronze Star for her service commanding a combat deployment to Afghanistan.

Carney made 12 cabinet nominations over the past month.

Prior to Timmons, in a Jan. 6 press release, Carney announced Dr. Kara Odom Walker as his nomination to lead the Department of Health and Social Services, Josette DelleDonne Manning as his nomination for the Department of Services for Children, Youth and Their Families, and Anas Ben Addi as his nomination to continue serving as director for the Delaware State Housing Authority, a post he has held since 2009.

Walker is currently the deputy chief science officer at the Patient-Centered Outcomes Research Institute in Washington, D.C. She has managed the institute's research investments, which total $1.6 billion to date toward a planned total of $2.5 billion as of 2019.

Manning currently serves as director of the Special Victims Unit, overseeing prosecution of all child abuse, child death and sex crime cases statewide. Manning has been a prosecutor for the Delaware Department of Justice for 16 years, conducting more than 75 trials during that time, prosecuting crimes from misdemeanors to capital murder.

In early December, Carney nominated Mike Jackson, currently Delaware's deputy controller general, as director of the Office of Management and Budget; Perry Phelps for commissioner of Department of Correction; and Rick Geisenberger for secretary of the Delaware Department of Finance. DelDOT Secretary Jennifer Cohan, Secretary of State Jeffrey Bullock and Department of Technology and Information Chief Information Officer James Collins have been nominated to continue serving.

A couple of weeks later, Carney announced Dr. Susan Bunting, Indian River School District superintendent, was his nomination for Department of Education secretary and Shawn Garvin, regional administrator of Region III for the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency, was his nomination for Department of Natural Resources and Environmental Control.

Nominations to the governor's cabinet must be confirmed by the Senate. Confirmation hearings are planned for Jan. 18.
