Carolyn Bernice Barrett, had a big heart

September 22, 2016

Carolyn Bernice Barrett, 89, of Millsboro, and formerly of Chester, N.J., passed away at Beebe Healthcare in Lewes.

She was born March 17, 1927, to the late Kenneth and Lulu Metzler O'Dell in Chester. She was a hard worker, and had many jobs over the years, including working as a cashier in a supermarket. She was a member of the First Congregational Church of Chester. Active in the community, she served in the ladies auxiliary of the American Legion, the Eastern Star, and ladies auxiliary of the Chester, N.J. Fire Department.

She enjoyed bowling, art projects, crossword puzzles, solitaire and mahjong. Her greatest love was spending time with her grandchildren. She was feisty, strong willed, but had a big heart. She would do anything for anybody, and bend over backwards to meet a need, or lend a hand.

She is survived by her daughter: Carol Dodd and husband George Ziobro, of Washington, N.J.; her son: Ralph Barrett of Millsboro; along with her special "adopted son" Kenneth McDonald, also of Millsboro. She has two grandchildren: Amanda Pool and Richard Dodd; along with seven great-grandchildren. She is also survived by extended family and friends. She was preceded by a sister: Clara Ammerman; and a brother: Kenneth O'Dell Jr.

There will be a private memorial service in New Jersey at a later date, and all other arrangements are private. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests contributions to the First Congregational Church of Chester, NJ P.O. Box 125, Chester, NJ 07930.
