Carolyn Leighton, craft entrepreneur

March 28, 2017

Carolyn Leighton, 74, of Lewes, formerly of Newark, died peacefully in her sleep Sunday, March 26, 2017, at Delaware Hospice in Milford. Born Jan. 8, 1943, in Baltimore, Md., she was predeceased by her parents, Alton C. and Betty Hill of Baltimore; and her brother Steven Hill of Newark.

Carol graduated from Delmar High School in 1961. After raising her children, she worked for many years in a variety of positions for several local companies.

After retiring, she became something of a craft entrepreneur and was known far and wide on the craft show circuit as the "lady with the painted fish." Money she earned from selling her fish helped her pay for the Caribbean vacations that she took with "the girls." In addition to crafting, Carol loved people watching on "the boards" in Rehoboth Beach, and never tired of the sights she would see!

When she was not painting or people watching, she visited with residents of local nursing homes. She was always happy to "set a while" and talk. Filled with compassion and interest in others, Carol made friends easily and maintained contact with many. She always looked forward to her lunches with her fellow Delmar graduates.

Carol's greatest joy was her family. She is survived by her husband of 55 years, Tom; her two sons, Richard (Suzy), and Joe (Erika); her daughter, Tracie Leighton; her grandchildren: Kaitlyn, Sarah (David), Brian (Lindsay), Ryan, Aaron, Brittany, Kennedy, Campbell, RJ, and TJ; five great-grandchildren: Ava, Luke, Hazel, Trent and Elliana; several cousins; her best friends, Millie Myers and Patty Avery, and many other friends too numerous to mention.

A Celebration of Carol's life will be held at 11 a.m., Friday, March 31, at Conley's United Methodist Church, 22150 Robinsonville Road, Lewes, where friends may visit beginning at 10 a.m. All arrangements are being handled by Parsell Funeral Homes and Crematorium, Atkins-Lodge Chapel, Lewes.

In lieu of flowers, the family suggests donations to Delaware Hospice, 100 Patriots Way, Milford, DE 19963.
