Catherine Ellen Sparrow Bundick, devoted to church

April 10, 2018

Catherine Ellen Sparrow Bundick, daughter of the late Frank and Wilhelmina Sparrow, was born Aug. 23, 1918, in Belltown. Catherine departed this life Monday, March 26, 2018, at the Atlantic Shores Nursing Center in Millsboro.

She was educated in Belltown school 198-C and Lewes Junior High School. On Oct. 20, 1949, Catherine was married to George L. Bundick in Oyster Bay, Long Island, N.Y. Catherine was a faithful member of John Wesley UM Church. She was very active in serving God and her church. She was a choir member, president of United Methodist Women, and church secretary since 1958. She organized the Women’s Choir and the Miracle Workers, was a delegate to the former Delaware Conference and a delegate to the Peninsula-Delaware Conference. She was treasurer to the Lewes United Methodist Circuit. Catherine was chairperson of the 125th Anniversary of John Wesley Church.

Catherine was a faithful and devoted wife  who enjoyed taking care of her husband George and other family members. Catherine and George often entertained guests in their home, because she loved to cook.

George predeceased her in 2011. Catherine took great pride in taking care of her church doing whatever needed to be done. Catherine was one of the faithful seen in the kitchen when John Wesley served dinners.

She leaves to cherish her memories a niece whom she and George thought of as a daughter: Angeline M. and husband James Tribbitt of Bridgeville; two sisters-in-law, Virginia Miller of Lincoln and Annie Trammell of Belltown; and a host of nieces and nephews.

A memorial service will be held at 1 p.m., Saturday, April 14, at Faith UM Church, 19940 Church St., Rehoboth Beach. Burial will be private. Arrangements by Miller Funeral Home & Cremation Services, Laurel.
