Central soccer snaps in second half to beat Cape 4-0

October 11, 2016

The Cape soccer team, playing on the home field pitch, got blasted in the second half by visiting Sussex Central, losing 4-0 as the Golden Knights outshot the Vikings 18-7. Cape drops to 4-5-1 with the loss.

The Vikings have now lost three games in a row to Indian River, Sussex Tech and Sussex Central, with five regular-season games remaining.

Dalendy Dupervil scored a pair of goals 42:01 and 51:02 with late goals by Maycol Escalante at 70:35 and Christopher Ramirez at 76:19.

Coach Pat Kilby offered reflections the Sunday following the Thursday night game.

“The match was played even through the first 40 minutes. In the second half, we couldn't contain their skill players,” he said. “They put our freshman goalkeeper Alan Marin under a lot of pressure.

“That is what I would have done as well – send numbers forward and test the young goalkeeper. Alan is getting an education, and he handling it in stride.”

Kilby added: “As soon as Central scored their first goal, the wind left our sails. We are facing a bit of adversity, losing three straight. In order to come out this season feeling good about the body of work we have put together, we need to continue to implement coaching points and work through this. We are learning more about ourselves in tough times than we did last season where we put together 15 wins.”
