Charity Givens joins Lawns Unlimited as tree and shrub specialist

April 1, 2018

Lawns Unlimited has announced Charity Givens is its new tree and shrub specialist.

Early spring is the perfect time to begin planning for the health of trees and shrubs, and protecting them from many insects and diseases in the area. Sometimes the signs are obvious, but other times they are hard to identify.

It is always a good idea for a professional to evaluate all of a property owner’s trees and shrubs each year to look for issues that could affect the health of the landscape. A professional will also be able to set up the proper treatment at the right time to benefit the trees and shrubs. This may include fertilizing for soil deficiency and root health, insect treatments for all major insect issues, and disease management for any fungus issues.

Early spring is also the best time to put down the first pre-emergent application in landscape beds. This is a program that takes away the stress of having pesky weeds ruin beautiful beds throughout the year. Landscaping is an investment worth protecting.

At age 14, Givens started working at a nursery in her hometown of Laurel, and she is still in the industry 23 years later. At Delaware Tech, Givens studied horticulture and turf management, and worked full-time at a golf course in Bethany Beach. For eight years, she was a chemical sales representative and provided services to lawn care companies and golf courses. She holds a Delaware pesticide license and attends recertification classes to stay up to date with anything new in the industry. During five years as a plant healthcare specialist with a local company, Givens diagnosed all aspects of issues on trees and shrubs, and developed treatment plans to help them become healthy again.
