Clampitt to bring taste of New Orleans to chef cookoff Sept. 9

August 23, 2017

The Milton Historical Society announced the participation of Chef Mike Clampitt of Po' Boys Creole & Fresh Catch in the second annual King Cole Cannery Celebrity Chef Cook-off and Basket Raffle fundraiser, set for 5 to 8 p.m., Saturday, Sept. 9, at Milton Fire Hall.

Clampitt grew up on the Eastern Shore of Maryland and spent his summers visiting his grandparents in Rehoboth Beach. He grew to love the culinary world at a young age and worked numerous restaurant jobs during his teenage years. He went on to graduate from Johnson and Wales University in Rhode Island.

He spent the last 34 years cooking in local restaurants and country clubs. Ten years were at Baywood Greens, where he prepared meals for weddings, fundraisers, charities and many happy customers. For the past four years, Clampitt has owned Po' Boys Creole & Fresh Catch in Milton. During this time, he has given back to the community through donations and sponsorships of numerous sports teams. In 2014, he became one of the founders of the Zombie Walk, a townwide event to benefit Milton nonprofit organizations.

Po' Boys has earned the Best Restaurant in Milton award from Delaware Today for the past three years. Clampitt was named Top Celebrity Chef at the Beach in 2015 and his food was voted Best Food You Can't Live Without at the same event. In 2015, he added the Po' Boys Food Truck to the business. He added the 684 to the outside of the big green machine to say thank you to Milton and to represent the town as he drives the truck around.

Tickets are $35 for MHS members who pay before noon, Friday, Sept. 8. Tickets purchased at the door will be $45. For the cost of admission, guests will be provided with cold appetizers, a small-plate portion of all participating chefs' offerings, ice cream donated by King's Ice Cream, complimentary water and soda, an event pint glass sponsored by Dogfish Head Craft Brewery and a vote for the King Cole Cannery Celebrity Chef Cook-off winner. A cash bar will offer a selection of wine and Dogfish Head beer.
