Clapton music and art show set at Southern Delaware School of the Arts March 23

March 16, 2017

Southern Delaware School of the Arts will host a special concert at 7 p.m., Thursday, March 23. The Cream of Clapton will feature SDSA's majors and minors rock band classes under the guidance of music teacher Melody Oneschuk. The bands will perform music from Eric Clapton's entire catalog ranging from his solo work to songs by bands such as Cream, The Yardbirds, and Derek and the Dominos.

There will be also be a special Sound and Color artwork display by SDSA students. Art teacher Forest Allread's seventh- and eighth-grade art majors and minors are creating a series of new projects that aim to reimagine, examine and question the relationships between sound and color. Two students have teamed up to tackle the notion of sound and color in an unexpected way. Lily Sharpe and Marely Hernandez-Lujan are using curiosity as the driving force for making a painting that paints itself.

They plan to use parts from an old motorized baby swing along with an assemblage of display boards, a box fan, paintbrushes, wooden planks, silverware, cans, canvas and paint. In the end, their work will come alive when it clings, clanks and paints its own work of art. Their final installation will be on display at the Cream of Clapton event along with artwork from all art students in kindergarten through eighth grade.

Doors open at 6:30 p.m. Admission is $5 for adults and $3 for students. For more information, call the school at 302-436-1066.
