Clarence James Reed Sr., farmer, school bus driver

Clarence James Reed Sr. 87, of Milton passed away peacefully Tuesday, Jan. 17, 2017, at Beebe Healthcare, Lewes.

Clarence was born in Milton, son of the late Clarence Theodore and Carlyn M. (Palmer) Reed.

He was a lifelong farmer, school bus driver for the Cape Henlopen School District for over 40 years, and truck driver. He loved farming, both crops and livestock. He enjoyed keeping up with other farmers in the area and sharing in their farming experiences as well.

He enjoyed auto racing, country western movies, and especially spending time with his family. He looked forward to their weekly adventures to eat out at West Side Diner in Milford, M&H in Milton and other area restaurants.

In addition to his parents, he is preceded in death by his beloved wife, Elizabeth Jane Reed, in 2002; a son, Kenneth Lee Reed, in 2009; his son-in-law, R. Allen White Sr., in 2006; and an infant brother, Richard K. Reed.

He is survived by three children: Beverly White and companion John Martin, Clarence James "Jim" Reed II and wife Cathy, and Richard Allen Reed and wife Karen; a brother, Fred T. Reed and wife Dot, all of Milton; seven grandchildren, 10 great-grandchildren; two great-great-grandchildren; and a host of extended family and friends.

A funeral service will be held at 2 p.m., Sunday, Jan. 22, in the chapel of Short Funeral Services, 416 Federal St., Milton, with visitation after noon. Burial will be in Odd Fellows Cemetery, Milton.

In lieu of flowers, the family suggests contributions to Delaware Hospice, 100 Patriots Way, Milford, DE 19963, or the Beebe Medical Foundation, 902 Savannah Road, Lewes, De 19958.
