Coastal Kayak to hold 16th Annual Paddle for a Cure June 11

May 29, 2017

Coastal Kayak will hold the 16th Annual Paddle for a Cure to benefit Sussex County programs of Delaware's Cancer Support Community beginning at 3 p.m., Sunday, June 11.

The organization's mission is to ensure that all people impacted by cancer are empowered by knowledge, strengthened by action and sustained by community. "Our programs help people diagnosed with cancer and their loved ones cope with the emotions that accompany a cancer diagnosis and the difficult journey that follows," said Jo Allegro-Smith, Sussex County director.

This year's fundraiser is a one-way paddle on the upper portion of Broad Creek near Laurel. Participants will meet the shuttle at 3 p.m. and can plan on getting off the water around 5:30 or 6 p.m. The route will pass by the historic shipbuilding town of Bethel and continue up into the serene waters of Broad Creek.

"Nearly everyone knows and loves someone who has battled cancer. In honor of those who are currently suffering and in memory of those who have died, we'd love to have the public join us to support this worthwhile organization and to have a great time doing it!" said Jenifer Adams-Mitchell, Coastal Kayak owner.

Preregistration is required, since the paddle is one way and space is limited. Donations to the Delaware Cancer Support Community will be accepted in lieu of a registration fee.
