Community forum on plan to transform healthcare in Delaware set June 7

May 21, 2016

The Delaware Center for Health Innovation will introduce Delaware’s State Health Care Innovation Plan through an extensive outreach highlighted by public community forums.

The plan is part of a multi-year process involving numerous stakeholders - consumers, healthcare providers, payers, community organizations, academic institutions and state agencies - working together to build a strategy that will improve the health of all Delawareans.

The first community forum will take place at 7 p.m., Tuesday, June 7, at the CHEER Community Center, Georgetown. A panel of speakers representing various aspects of healthcare delivery will address specific topics that affect all citizens, ranging from accessing electronic medical records and expanded doctors’ hours to a team approach for better coordinated care and the introduction of new ways of paying providers that emphasize the quality of care, not the quantity of care.

In addition, a Healthy Neighborhoods initiative will be explained that helps communities address issues to ensure healthy lifestyles and behaviors. A question-and-answer session will follow the panel’s 45-minute presentation.

“Our state’s healthcare system faces complex challenges requiring innovative and needed reform measures,” said DCHI Executive Director Julane Miller-Armbrister. “This State Health Care Innovation Plan will help transform the health of all Delawareans, improve the quality of healthcare, reduce the growth of healthcare costs and help providers operate more efficiently.”

“We want everyone to understand the personal impact and importance of this movement toward changing the status quo,” said Secretary Rita Landgraf, Delaware Department of Health and Social Services. “By working together - ommunity leaders, doctors and other clinicians, insurance providers, and patients and consumers - Delaware will become a national leader in healthcare.” For more information, go to www.dehealthinnovation.org.
