Concerns raised over potential Lewes trails

August 15, 2017

The following is an open letter to Parks and Recreation, City of Lewes:

We purchased in Canary Creek with the understanding that much of the Great Marsh property would be left natural and undeveloped. We as homeowners in the 400 block of Samantha Drive are opposed to having any open space, trails or other uses put in the area between Park Road and back frontage of the 400 block Samantha Drive homes.

We would prefer to keep all trails, fields and other passive activities in the center near the dog park. Based on our experience, trails and fields of this type bring activities and people that could be environmentally detrimental to such a sensitive woodland area.

In this woodland area we have observed deer, turtles, foxes, and rabbits, raptors that help keep down the rodent population and tree owls that keep down the nuisance insects.

We ask that if Parks and Recreation is intent on development that the development is very limited and only be done on the side of Park Road nearest the dog park away from the Canary Creek development. Lewes is a tree city for a reason; please let us keep it that way.
