Cory Burton remembered by The Brick Hotel

July 16, 2017

A year ago June 30, Cory A. Burton, a 20-year-old employee of The Brick in Georgetown, lost his life in a single-car accident. Burton had worked for The Brick for two years primarily as host, but also as a server and jack of all trades. His sudden passing left a huge hole in the hearts of family members and his Brick family, and also in the hearts of patrons of the business.

Brick owners Lynn and Ed Lester had a fountain installed in their Circle-side garden in Burton's memory. A group of more than 60 friends, family members and Brick patrons gathered as the Cory Burton Memorial Fountain was dedicated July 1.

"Cory held a special place in our hearts, and we miss him every single day. We decided that the installation of a fountain was the best way to keep Cory's memory alive - it's a place where anyone who wants to can visit for healing and reflecting on Cory's contribution to their life," said Lynn Lester.

The fountain is a three-tiered structure, which was designed that way on purpose. Lester explained that the top tier represents the simplicity of Cory's life, the second tier represents his serious and peaceful nature, and the the final tier provides a splash at the base of the fountain, reflecting Burton's crazy, fun side. As Lester was describing the final tier during the dedication, the local fire siren went off and, with smiles and chuckles, the crowd attributed that to Burton's making his presence known that day.

The Lesters would like to thank Cory Burton's parents, Becky and Andy Burton, for their permission to install the Cory Burton Memorial Fountain, and would also like to thank all those who have donated to the project.

Donations are still being accepted and can be mailed to The Brick Hotel, 18 The Circle, Georgetown, DE 19947.
