Country and Bluegrass Festival set Sept. 23 in Milton Memorial Park

September 17, 2017

The Milton Country and Bluegrass Festival will take place from 11 a.m. to 6 p.m., Saturday, Sept. 23, at Milton Memorial Park. Admission is free; attendees should bring their own lawn chairs or blankets for sitting on the grass. The Milton Lions Club train will be running for kids of all ages, and the club will have its famous funnel cakes available for purchase. The Holy Smokers of Goshen Church will offer fresh barbecued chicken for hot lunches and take-home dinners. More food vendors are still signing on.

The event is hosted by the Town of Milton, the Milton Community Foundation and the Delaware Division of the Arts. Sponsors are Comcast, Empire Construction, Mercer-Sydell Dental, Baker Petroleum, Pennoni Engineering, First State Inspection Services, and David Horsey and Sons.

The music starts off country with The Pros from Dover performing the first set at 11 a.m. Band leader Matt Lafferty will direct The Pros in classic country style. Next up at 12:30 p.m., bluegrass kicks off when the Delmarva Ramblers start everyone’s toes a-tappin’ with their banjos and fiddles. The Timmons Family Band, well known throughout Delmarva for quality bluegrass sounds, will take the stage at 2 p.m.

Buffalo Chip and the Heard comes on at 3:30 with a style as unique as the band's name. Bluegrass lovers will love the spin Chip and the Heard put on their favorite bluegrass music. Country music from Tydewater starts at 5 p.m. A crowd favorite of Milton's Summer Concert Series for many years, Ty Sherwood and his band will make country fans glad they came for the day.

All are welcome at Milton Memorial Park from 11 a.m. to 6 p.m., Saturday, Sept. 23. Free admission; bring chairs and smiles, and bring money because you'll get hungry and the food ain't free. Rain will move the music to the Milton Fire Dept. across the crick from the park.
