September 22, 2016

Nearly 1,500 riders are expected to raise $1 million in the 33rd annual MS Bike: Bike to the Bay that took place Sept. 10 and 11.

The money will be used for programs and services for Delawareans living with multiple sclerosis, as well as research on the cause of the disease and development of new treatments.

Cyclists had options of one- and two-day rides of 17 miles to 175 miles, starting at Delaware Technical Community College Terry Campus in Dover and ending at Delaware Seashore State Park near Indian River Inlet.

Catered rest stops are a big part of the event and are placed every 12 miles along the route. In the Cape Region, the Milton Odd Fellows and Rebekahs sponsored Uncle Ted's Place along Cave Neck Road, and Terry Fresconi of Middletown and her family sponsored the Plantations Margaritaville rest stop off Plantation Road for the 16th year in a row.

The 2017 event will take place Oct. 7 and 8; registration is underway at www.nationalmssociety.org.
