Daniel H. Shirley, retired manager

Daniel H. Shirley, 98, of Ocean View and Bethany Beach, formerly of Clinton, Md., passed away Saturday, June 9, 2018, at Beebe Healthcare in Lewes.

Dan was born in Washington, D.C., Jan. 14, 1920, son of the late Otis G. Shirley and the late Frances (Mistretta) Shirley. He proudly served his country in the U.S. Army Air Corps during World War II.

Mr. Shirley retired as the manager of the display department for Peoples Drug Stores in 1983 after 45 years of service. He was a member of St. Martha's Episcopal Church in Bethany Beach and a member of the Lord Baltimore Lions. He and his wife Beverly were also volunteers at Beebe Hospital and Atlantic Community Thrift Shop (ACTS).

Dan was an avid golfer, fisherman, reader, gardener and landscaper. His greatest enjoyment was time spent with his children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a sister, Sue Fotta. Dan is survived by his loving wife of 77 years, Beverly E. (André) Shirley; a son, Stephen (Mary) Shirley of Crofton, Md.; a daughter, Teresa (Michael) Walsh of Millville; three grandchildren, Cristin (Derek) Miller and their daughter Saylor of Stevensville, Md., Michael (Alexandra) Walsh and their four children, Shaun, Monica, Stephanie and Connor of Perkasie, Pa., and Gregory (Jennifer) Walsh and their daughter, Sydney of Adrian, Mich. He is also survived by a sister, Carolyn Jean Rojas of Cordova, Md.; and several nieces and nephews.

A visitation will be held from 11 a.m. to noon, Friday, June 15, at the Ocean View Chapel of Melson Funeral Services, 38040 Muddy Neck Road, Ocean View. A funeral service will also be held that day at 12:45 p.m., at St. Martha's Episcopal Church, 117 Maplewood St., Bethany Beach. Interment will follow at Gate of Heaven Cemetery in Dagsboro.
