DART Stuff the Bus food drive to take place Nov. 6-11

October 21, 2017

DART will celebrate 20 years of partnering with the Food Bank of Delaware for the annual Stuff The Bus Thanksgiving Food Drive with a goal to collect 20 tons of nonperishable food for Delawareans in need of food assistance. They need the public's help to achieve that goal. The Food Bank of Delaware is a nonprofit agency committed to ending hunger in Delaware. According to the Food Bank, annually 1 in 8 people in Delaware rely on its partners and programs for food assistance, and 25 percent of them are children.

The Stuff The Bus food drive will start Monday, Nov. 6, and end Saturday, Nov. 11. New to the Cape Region this year will be a donation site at the Acme in Rehoboth Nov. 6. The public is invited to help stuff the bus at any of the seven collection sites statewide with their nonperishable food donations. Some of the most-needed holiday items are: canned sweet potatoes, peas, corn; evaporated milk; canned pumpkin; applesauce; coffee/tea bags; corn muffin mix; canned gravy; mashed potatoes; graham cracker pie crusts; and turkey pans.

Dates and sites include:

• Monday, Nov. 6: Acme, 18578 Coastal Highway, Rehoboth, 9 a.m.-3 p.m.

• Tuesday, Nov. 7: Walmart, 939 N. DuPont Highway, Milford, 7 a.m.-6 p.m.

• All DMV offices: Delaware City - 2101 Mid-County Drive; Dover - 303 Transportation Circle; Georgetown - 23737 DuPont Blvd.; Wilmington - 2230 Hessler Blvd.

DART also encourages the public to donate directly to the Food Bank of Delaware if they are unable to visit any of the Stuff The Bus collection sites.  For more information on donating food, contact the Food Bank at 302-292-1305, or go to www.FBD.org.
