May 25, 2017

The DE-Feet Breast Cancer 5K, held May 20 behind Tanger Outlets where it intersects the Junction & Breakwater Trail, attracted 517 runners and walkers, most of whom were there to support survivors and to bring awareness that the battle against breast cancer is real and necessary.

A total of 134 people broke 30 minutes in the run. Another 163 walked it in over 50 minutes. The music was vintage 1980s; a woman with a cane took over an hour to walk the 5K course but sang along to the Hall & Oates song “You make my dreams come true.”

Griffin Lipman was atop the male leaderboard, running 19:11. He was followed by Sara Kolobieski in 22:06, Lauren Moran in 22:08, Katherine Kulig in 22:19, Coryn Cannon in 22:27 and Karen Sposato in 22:29.

The male 13-and-under division was stacked, with 10 runners breaking 25 minutes. They included Brexton Carter in 20:14, Evan Sydnor in 21:55, Zane Miller in 22:54, Luca Miller in 23:09, Eddie Houck in 23:10, Connor McCracken in 23:24, C.J. Fritchman in 23:28, Gage Hall in 24:07, Zach Eig in 24:16 and Brendan Eig in 24:22.
